Born in Pennsylvania,
Moved to Ohio,
Some swear that she walked there
With shoes of cardboard soles.
With dreams of academia,
But necessity to eat,
She found herself in Strongsville
With five children at her feet.
Made clothes for all the children,
How she loved to sew.
Every year a garden,
Watch the flowers grow.
The children then had children
And spread across the land.
Thanks to Eliana,
They all got an afghan.
Oh Eliana, we love her so
Eliana our beloved dago
Eliana hot italian queen
Elia-ah-ahh-na Liatti Beam
Began as a Liatti,
Then became a Beam,
Never letting go
Of a mother-fostered dream.
With pen in hand and papers,
Stealin' time from needed rest,
She rekindled the fire
Burning deap beneath her chest.
Sent some of her writings
To publishers of prose
The New Yorker, The Post,
Vanity and Vogue,
And to no one's amazement,
The rhymes began to sell,
Til the poem-reading public
Became a dried up well. |
Oh, Eliana, we love her so

Eliana hot Italian queen
Elia-ah-ahh-na Liatti Beam
So she set aside her writing
For art more visual.
In a year or two her paintings
Too began to sell.
But as the fates would have it,
The income did not last.
It's hard to paint a picture
Through a magnifying glass!
Now no longer painting,
She's back with that old friend.
A heavy bold black marker
Is now her fountain pen.
And when she isn't writing,
She hears the books on tape.
Heaven help the reader
If he makes a mistake!

We gather here tonight,
Liatti's one and all,
To celebrate a life
That is anything but small.
And reflecting on our own life,
Mostly the unseen,
We're thankful we were loved
by Eliana Liatti Beam.
